Medieval age embellishment I once ignorantly thought to be a talisman of a whales tale worn by a sailor for safety and protection.Not only was i very wrong.I was equally off from it's original place in history and in ancient military sheath decor.After a lengthy stent of frustrated research, I found this to be the decorative end of a sheath.The hole I thought was for a chain/rope to hold the talisman around the neck actually held a tassel.This piece fits Only to adorn the end of the dagger/sword sheath. I was disappointed and excited in the fact the artifact finally had a purpose so I could tell it's story.
